After about five years of planning, Alchemist Public Market broke ground Thursday morning in Sacramento’s River District.

Alchemist Community Development Corp., a nonprofit focused on advancing food access, will be the operator of Alchemist Public Market. Plans for the market began in 2021. The project cost is projected to be about $17 million.
